30 Day Song Challenge

1. A song I like with a color in the title: Rosa by J. Balvin
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..Yo no sé qué me pasa cuando cerca te tengo, pero me atrevería a jugarme la vida por un par de besos..”

2. A song I like with a number in the title: Day 1 by Honne
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..When I first met you, it just felt right. It’s like I met a copy of myself that night..”

3. A song that reminds me of summertime: Again & Again by The Bird and The Bee
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..You’re so stupid and perfect, and stupid and perfect, I hate you, I want you, I hate you, I hate you, oh oh, again, again, again..”
Honestly it’s the melody.

4. A song that reminds me of someone I’d rather forget: Pejantan Tangguh by Sheila On 7
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..Di persembunyian aku menari, di persembunyian aku bernyanyi, pejantan tangguh..”
Any song by SO7, actually, will remind me of him because he likes the band, but this Pejantan Tangguh is the cringiest of all imo.

5. A song that needs to be played loud: Your New Morning Alarm by Marc Rebillet
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..Time to wake up, time to wake up, bitch, get up..”

6. A song that makes me want to dance: Still Breathing by DVRST
I remember end of 2021 taking my first antidepressant pill and danced my body away for hours to house music and this was one of them.

7. A song to drive to: Pulang by Float
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..Jelajahi waktu, ke tempat berteduh, hati kala biru..”
Very fitting song to play when it’s clear sky in an empty toll road.

8. A song about drugs or alcohol: It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You) by The 1975
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..I can’t stop sweating or control my feet, got a twenty-stone monkey that I just can’t beat..”

9. A song that makes me happy: Used to Me by Luke Chiang
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..So I’ll meet you at eight, whatever you wanna do, it’s fine by me, I swear..”

10. A song that makes me sad: Hurt by Christina Aguilera
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“Are you looking down upon me? Are you proud of who I am?..”
If someone is not bawling their eyes out while listening to this song and watching the MV, then they’re as heartless as a person could be. Nobody could be not sad listening to this song even though they might have the happiest life around.

11. A song I never get tired of: Si Se Da (Remix) by Myke Towers, Farruko, Arcangel, Sech y Zion
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..Yo te doy lo que tú exijas, la champaña está fría, oye, si tú la deja’, ella sola la vacía..”
The beat slaps.

12. A song from my preteen years: Kupilih Dia by Cokelat
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..Mungkin ‘ku tak lagi bisa bersama, ‘ku tetap memilih dia..”
Lagu galau anak SD tahun 2003.

13. A song I like from the 70’s: Looks Like We Made It by Barry Manilow
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..Do you love him as much as I love her?..”
I got to know Barry Manilow because we share the same birthday. So, since that revelation, I started listening to his songs, and Looks Like We Made It is such a mature song, as in, it tells a story where you’re happy for someone you once loved to have a fulfilling life without you in it, because you already have your own happy life to live, while not denying there might be a sliver of old feelings still there.

14. A song I’d love to be played at my wedding: Make It With You by Bread
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..No, you don’t know me well, in every little thing only time will tell, but you believe the things that I do, and we’ll see it through..”
I don’t know how to incorporate this song into my wedding, which I don’t envision to have dance session in, but the lyrics and the meaning behind this song is just very sweet.

15. A song I like that’s a cover by another artist: You’re The Best Thing by 911, originally by The Style Council
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..I could runaway but I’d rather stay, in the warmth of your smile lighting up my day..”

16. A song that’s a classic favorite: Cayman Island by Kings of Convenience
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..If only they could see, if only they had been here, they would understand how someone could have chosen to go the length I’ve gone to spend just one day riding, holding on to you, I never thought it would be this clear..”
Oh, to be calmly loved.

17. A song I’d sing a duet with someone on karaoke: We Don’t Talk Anymore by Charlie Puth & Selena Gomez
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“..I just hope you’re lying next to somebody who knows how to love you like me, there must be a good reason that you’re gone..”

18. A song from the year I was born: Kiss from a Rose by Seal
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..To me you’re like a growing addiction that I can’t deny, yeah, won’t you tell me, is that healthy, baby?”
This was actually my brother and his comrades’ song of choice in karaoke in which I joined one long, long time ago. I had a crush with one of them, and that’s why this song sticks in my brain ever since.

19. A song that makes me think about life: Borderline by Tame Impala
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..Here I go, quite a show for a loner in L.A., I wonder how I managed to end up in this place where I couldn’t get away..”
People interpret this song as Kevin’s inner monologue underneath all of his hype and fame, so, I feel like I relate much with this. Not the hype and fame part, but just that we all have different public vs private sides inside us.

20. A song that has many meanings to me: Tree Among Shrubs by Men I Trust
‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ“..And I now believe that no one asked about your secret past the pain to match your strength. And I now believe that no one thought you had a lonely past, the pain and strength so vast.. But I see a tree that’s standing high among the shrubs..”
Secret, lonely past.

21. A song I like with a person’s name in the title: Mark Chapman by Måneskin
“..Non prova sentimenti, sono tutti per te, dice che ti ama ma lo sai che mente, sei in ogni suo risposta, e in tutti i suoi perché..”

22. A song that moves me forward: La Canción by Bad Bunny & J. Balvin
“..Yo sé que lo nuestro e’ cosa de ayer, y me pone contento que te va bien con él, yo ni te extrañaba ni te quería ver pero pusieron la canción que te gustaba poner y me acordé de ti, cuando me hiciste feliz, se acabó, pues, me fui..”
This song is about calmly accepting that moving on is a process, that there might be moments where I got reminded of you or our memories, but in the end, I’m happy that we’re now walking a different path, and I wish you the best on your journey without me.

23. A song I think everybody should listens to: Queen of Kings by Alessandra
“..A firestone forged in flames, the wildest card, run the game, run the game..”

24. A song by a band I wish were still together: House of Memories by Panic! At The Disco
“..I think of you from time to time more than I thought I would, you were just too kind, and I was too young to know that’s all that really matters, I was a fool..”

25. A song I like by an artist no longer living: Careless Whisper by George Michael
“..I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend, and waste the chance that I’d been given, so I’m never gonna dance again the way I danced with you..”
This song is the flip side of Never Gonna Give You Up in my book with the legendary sax solo in it.

26. A song that makes me want to fall in love: Nothing by Bruno Major
“..There’s not many people I’d honestly say I don’t mind losing to..”
The song that embodied the serene feeling of watching your loved one sleeping soundly right next to you.

27. A song that breaks my heart: Do Me A Favour by Arctic Monkeys
“..As she walked away, well, her shoes were untied, and the eyes were all red, you could see that we’d cried. And I watched and I waited till she was inside, forcing a smile and waving goodbye.. Curiosity becomes a heavy load, too heavy to hold, too heavy to hold.. Curiosity becomes a heavy load, too heavy to hold, will force you to be cold..”
Namecode “that part in Do Me A Favour” and every Arctic Monkeys fan will know that you meant this part.

28. A song by an artist whose voice I love: Shades of Cool by Lana Del Rey
“..But I can’t fix him, can’t make him better, and I can’t do nothing about his strange weather..”
Lana’s early songs are every sugar baby’s anthem glorified.

29. A song I remember from my childhood: Words by Boyzone
“..It’s only words, and words are all I have to take your heart away..”
Back in the era of rampant music piracy, in our household we have this one CD that contains the compilation of songs by Boyzone, 911, and The Backstreet Boyz. This song was one that my Dad sings most often.

30. A song that reminds me of myself: sorry haha I fell asleep by Egg
“..I’m willing to sway to any point of view, that’ll make me a bit more appealing to you..”
I actually sent this song to someone I only got to know shortly that already took offense on how bad I was at communicating my needs to him, and this song really helped.
